Man Shot In Central Islip Home Invasion

A 48-year-old man was shot and severely wounded today in the early morning.  The man was the victim of a failed robbery attempt - they left with nothing. Apparently three masked men with guns broke into the home on Birch Street while a mother, her 22-year-old daughter, and 13-year-old son were all home. The 22-year-old was injured and had to go to the hospital because she sustained injury resulting from being hit in the face with the gun. Thankfully the mother and the 13-year-old were left unharmed by the three men. The 48-year-old man was taken to Southside hospital in Bay Shore, he was shot in the abdomen. At this time it is still unknown whether the man was a relative of the mother and two kids. The Third Squad detectives used canines to search for the men, but none of them were found. Witnesses said they saw no vehicle and no one knows how the men left the scene of the robbery.

The robbery is still being investigated.
