2 people die in longisland train crash brentwood
BRENTWOOD - Officials say a Long Island Rail Road train slammed into a car east of the Brentwood station around 10 a.m.
MTA officials say it appears two people were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. News 12 Long Island’s Eileen Lehpamer is reporting that a body was pulled out of the charred car.
The train was an equipment train, and no passengers were on board.
MTA officials say at the time of the incident the gate was fully down, and the car appears to have gone around it. The vehicle was pushed approximately a half mile until the train stopped.
Officials say how the fire started is under investigation.
Train service has been suspended between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. The MTA is advising customers to seek alternative train service on the Montauk, Port Jefferson and Babylon branches. The Ronkonkoma line will be out of service for several hours.
